Over one hundred communities and twenty-five counties in Oregon have passed ordinances prohibiting the use of magic mushrooms.

Since the majority of Oregon's elections have already been called, it's become evident which counties will have access to psilocybin for medicinal purposes. In 2020, voters in Oregon approved Measure 109, which legalises psilocybin for medical and research purposes. In order to avoid legalisation, local governments could choose to put the issue back to voters. Source The 25 red counties and nearly 100 blue cities on the following map all opted to opt out. During talks before the election, many rural county and city leaders in the state voiced their fear that legalising the hallucinogen in controlled settings would pave the way for its production and sale on the black market. At a meeting in July, Jackson County Commissioner Colleen Roberts expressed her worries that the county was "a bit head shy" about the "time, place, and manner" of any future marijuana-related business.
